Ally is the author of It Came from the Trees. She grew up on a steady diet of Halloween parties, horror films, Unsolved Mysteries, and Goosebumps books. She has always loved scary stories and got her MFA from Simmons University and, eventually, a job working in children’s publishing. In the past, she has written about all kinds of spooky subjects for the Tor Nightfire blog. She hails from Pittsburgh—ground zero for the zombie apocalypse. Ally lives with her husband and her two black cats, Nox and Fury. She’s afraid of the woods, the dark, and heights.
Ally has always had a deep interest in all things strange. As a kid, she spent most Friday and Saturday nights huddled around the TV with her parents and siblings as they watched scary movies. Werewolf movies were–and still are–her favorite, and to this day, she still gets a little nervous whenever the moon is full.
When Ally learned how to read on her own, she devoured books like Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Tales for the Midnight Hour, and The Dark Thirty: Southern Tales of the Supernatural. When she wasn’t reading, Ally was either watching TV shows about cryptids and other paranormal subjects or trying to write her own scary stories. (Her first “book” was an unauthorized sequel to a Goosebumps book, which she wrote by hand. Shh…don’t tell R.L. Stine!) She still has a binder full of all the scary stories she wrote when she was a kid.
Like that sponge from the Goosebumps book It Came from Beneath the Sink!, Ally continued to soak up frightening stories from the world around her, and eventually she was inspired to try to write her own scary stories. Ally enjoys being scared, and since the age of 10, she has been worried about spontaneous combustion and the Beast of Bray Road.
